A466 St Lawrence Road, Chepstow
Resurfacing works at St Lawrence Road, Chepstow were undertaken as part of the South East Wales Highways and Civil Engineering Contractors’ Framework Agreement, and involved improvement works to 550m of carriageway and footways.
- Road Marking/Road Studs
- Highway Signage
- Traffic Management
- Community Engagement
In consultation with the Client’s Traffic Officers, a convoy traffic management system was set up to ensure traffic flows were maintained and temporary speed limits were adhered to. The existing surface course was then planed and reinstated with a thin surface course system – Hansons 14mm Duraphalt. In agreement with the Client, and to further reduce disruption to the travelling public, all planing and surfacing works were undertaken between the hours of 8pm and 6am.
830 Tonnes of Duraphalt was laid and all planings were removed offsite to Griffiths’ in-house recycling company United Recycled Aggregates (URA). URA has the capability to rejuvenate suitable asphalt material creating a 100% recycled material that can be used for footway/cycleway binder course or highway pothole repairs and patching works.
Thermoplastic road markings were then remarked and new road studs and highway signage installed.
Throughout the works access to all residential properties was maintained and significant liaison was held with Chepstow Community Hospital to ensure all emergency vehicles could pass through the works unobstructed. Pedestrian and cycle diversions were put in place and maintained throughout the contract.
