Griffiths commits to ‘earn and learn’ by joining The 5% Club
Griffiths, one of the biggest Civil Engineering contractors is Wales, has showcased its commitment to developing its people by joining The 5% Club, an industry led initiative focussed on driving momentum into the recruitment of apprentices, graduates and sponsored students.
The 5% Club is a movement of more than 250 employers providing ‘earn and learn’ opportunities to develop the skills and talents people need to become more employable and create meaningful careers. Companies joining The 5% Club commit to raising the number of apprentices, sponsored students and graduates on formal programmes to 5% of their total workforce within five years. Members are also asked to publicly report their progress in their Annual Report. Existing members range from SMEs to FTSEs and cover a number of diverse industries, from engineering through to the legal sector.
Griffiths is pleased and excited to be members of The 5% Club. By joining, we are showcasing our commitment to both developing the skills of our existing workforce and attracting and increasing the number of industry new entrants.
Our Pre-apprentice and Apprentice+ Programme was recently awarded Business in the Community’s Responsible Business Award for Inspiring Young Talent. This award recognised the work undertaken with primary and secondary schools to highlight career paths in construction and civil engineering. By joining The 5% Club, we are demonstrating a commitment to offer sustained employment and development opportunities to young people once they leave fulltime education.
Griffiths Executive Director, Martyn Evans said: “Griffiths is pleased to have joined The 5% Club and be able to demonstrate we are already exceeding the 5% target number of individuals on apprenticeship schemes and in graduate roles within our workforce. We will continue to set organisational targets on new apprentice and graduate starts and report annually on our performance via our Sustainability Challenge.”
Lady Cobham, Director General of The 5% Club said, “We’re delighted to welcome Griffiths into membership. The 5% Club provides a fantastic network of HR professionals, sharing and learning from each other. All our members share an ethos of creating a skilled workforce through ‘earn and learn’ development programmes, helping people develop meaningful career paths.”
