Health & Safety and Environment Advisor

South West England

The Role:

Supporting our civil engineering sites in the South West of England primarily Dorset, Wiltshire, Devon and Somerset

  • Providing advice, guidance and coaching to all levels of site personnel on Health and Safety and Environmental issues, site safety inspections, audits, production of reports and accident investigation
  • Ensuring site based management are focussed on delivering a safe and healthy working environment
  • Reviewing subcontractor selection and auditing performance
  • Working alongside the project management team supporting them in the preparation of construction phase plans and writing method statements and risk assessments
  • Ensuring that the company’s health and safety and environmental policies are implemented consistently across all of our sites
  • Deliver Inductions, Toolbox Talks & safety briefings on site as and when required
  • Liaising with senior management, clients, contractors the HSE and other regulatory bodies
  • Deputising for the Health and Safety Manager as required
  • Ensure all records relating to Health and Safety are maintained and readily to hand

The Candidate:

  • Five years’ experience in civil engineering
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate
  • IEMA Associate Certificate in Environmental Management or equivalent
  • Sound technical knowledge of the construction process in general and ideally have experience on large highway/civil engineering projects
  • Detailed knowledge of current health and safety legislation and its application to a construction environment
  • Experience of communicating effectively verbally and in writing with senior manager and producing written reports
  • Full UK Driving licence
  • Well organised and comfortable with using computers to email, write reports & presentations and create and manage spreadsheets
  • Effective team working and networking skills and the ability to work independently using own initiative
