Diglis Walk and Cycle Bridge Opens

Worcester's £1.8million Diglis Walk and Cycle Bridge officially opened to the public on 20th July.

The structure is a painted steel single cable stay bridge. The 'A' frame pylon rises over 28 metres above the west bank and is inclined towards the river at 22.5 degrees. The pylon is anchored by four pairs of solid steel cable back stays, which in turn supports the deck with a further five pairs of solid steel cable stays. The deck, which spans 66 metres across the river, is a minimum of 3.5 metres wide between the top wooden handrails and weighs approximately 70 tonnes.

Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd were Principal Contractor, initial bridge concept was designed by Yee Associates, detailed design was by Mott MacDonald. Steel fabrication and erection was undertaken by the Rowecord Group.
