Quench Tower - Morfa Coke Ovens

 

The works consisted of the construction of two large reinforced concrete structures:-

  1. A 30mm high tower as base for a 20m high hardwood timber tower to provide a quenching facility for the rapid cooling of coke.  The tower was lined with bricks throughout.
  2. A settlement pond structure to collect, clean and recycle the run off water.

Other works included:

  • 250m of rail track incorporating concrete support slabs adjacent to the tower
  • Mechanical Control Centre building to house the electrical switchgear for the plant
  • Associated roads and paved areas
  • All hard and soft landscaping
  • Safety barriers and security fencing
