Llanhilid Primary Infrastructure Works

| Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd. was commissioned by Cofton (Wales) Ltd. to construct Phase 1 of the Llanilid Primary Infrastructure scheme. The scheme consists of approximately 1270m of 9m wide highway with a footway and cycleway including two roundabouts. It also includes all associated drainage, both piped and in open ditch, together with a ditch maintenance track, road lighting and signage and associated furniture. The major earthworks operation required the acquisition of suitable material from within the site boundaries for incorporation into the carriageway works as fill. The site was previously an open cast coal mine that had been backfilled over a considerable number of years. A limited trial pit investigation had been undertaken but the site team, which included an experienced Materials Engineer, elected to undertake further investigations and soil testing to ascertain the suitability of the available site won materials. The bulk earthworks operation required the excavation, loading and transportation of approximately 129,000 m³ of suitable material to be spread and compacted to form the fill of the embankment. This critical path activity was undertaken entirely by our in-house plant capability and experienced CPCS trained operatives. |
