St. Ann's Way Bridge Link

St. Ann’s Way Bridge Link comprises the construction of a lifting bascule bridge and a control building associated with the operation of the bridge that spans the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal, which joins the Gloucester Inner Relief Road to the Gloucester South West Bypass. With a roadway deck 6m above water level the bridge allows navigation of the canal to be possible and, in most cases, enabling it to stay open to vehicular traffic most of the time.

This new road and bridge connection dramatically improves Gloucester’s transportation system and stimulates the city wide regeneration being led by Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company (URC).

Built from steel and white concrete, the bridge’s futuristic design is set to become an iconic landmark structure and provides stunning views of Gloucester Docks. Pedestrians and cyclists are also able to cross the bridge safely on the outside of the roadway barriers and gain access to new towpaths alongside the canal.

The scheme includes extensive bored and sheet piling including 12 No. steel-tubed fender piles and augered main foundation piles to bridge abutments (80 No.) with loadings between 450kn and 900kn.
