The works carried out under this contract are an improvement of the junction between the A40 Trunk Road and the unclassified U0530 County Road at Llansantffraed east of Brecon in Powys.
The main aspect of the works comprised the replacement of the northern Brecon slip road with a new two way connection to the A40 trunk road a short distance to the north west of the existing junction. Embankment works to support the relocated junction provide a buttress to the existing A40 trunk road embankment which was subject to progressive failure.
Construction of the works included the temporary occupation of areas of private property and agricultural premises in order to provide working areas for the permanent works. Accommodation works comprised provision of new agricultural field gates, cattle grid, fences and hedges and the reinstatement of existing verge crossing.
The scheme has improved road safety at this location by increasing visibility (sight lines) and segregating vehicles ready to negotiate the right turn manoeuvre into the unclassified U0530 county road. |
